I vagely remember from highschool that an important part of Buhdism is refelction. I think the most important message then was that no religion could be as good as being Dutch reformed.
Looking at this Japanes Budha, I wonder what he is reflecting about. It wouldn’t be his sins (guess he’s not a Catholic), because I don’t think he has any. Does he have a life apart from reflecting? If he’s just reflecting, does he carry the burden of the whole earth?
I made the picture in the National Museum of Etnology (Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde) in Leiden, the Netherlands on November 24 this year.

wow this one goes deep… like he’s too perfect? something like ultimate perfection doesn’t exist? like heaven doesn’t exist? or a perfect world? or maybe just that believing in anything divine is useless?
